Established in 1872 by Alsatian industrialists from Bischwiller, this vast factory became the flagship of the Elbeuf textile industry. After its closure in 1975, the conversion of these buildings for housing and public facilities reflects the challenges associated with reuse of industrial heritage. Since fall 2010, after 24 months rehabilitation, the Knowledge Factory now hosts the Metropolis Museum with its archives and heritage centre of architecture and heritage, and a tourist welcoming point.
Other facilities related to education and training also takes place.
