In the manner
of Claude Monet
Taking advantage of the ideal location of the office des Finances, the first Renaissance building in Rouen opposite Notre-Dame Cathedral and which has hosted the Rouen Tourist Office since 1959, Rouen Normandie Tourisme & Congress offers a unique experience for visitors from all over the world who will not be able to travel this year. The whole world, starting with the Americans and the Japanese, great fans of Impressionism, will so benefit the view that is offered every day.
This experience is literally inspired by work from the series of paintings painted by the master impressionist Claude Monet who settled in the 1892 and 1893, opposite the Rouen Cathedral. From three different points of view and from different hours of the day the artist painted around thirty of canvases. He notably occupied the first floor of the “Bureau des Finances”, where twenty-eight views of the western portal at different times of the day were painted.
Cathedral Light Show
The web camera installed on the top floor of the Tourist office will not only broadcast images of a world famous facade but also every summer evening, from July 4 to 30 September 2020, the two sound and light projections «Cathedral of Light»: “Première impression” and “Jeanne (s)” proposed by the Metropolis Rouen Normandy.
