The historian Jules Michelet (1798-1874) set up his study, now restored to its original state, at the top of the 12th century octagonal tower. Today, it is an Art Centre renowned for its temporary exhibitions by Its French and English gardens are a real open-air gallery of modern sculpture with sixty works by great 20th century artists (Dalí, Braque, Léger, Volti, Vasarely, etc.)

Enjoy a guided tour of the Château de Martainville and its Museum of Norman Art and Traditions.
Jacques Le Pelletier, the son of a rich family of merchants from Provence, acquired the 25-hectare fief of Martainville in 1481. The year 1485 is engraved into the key of a window in the south tower and attests to its period of construction, with completion around 1495. The Museum of Norman Traditions and Arts displays the furniture, clothing, ceramics, glassware and everyday items used in the Haute-Normandie region from the 15th to the 19th century.
