The Rouen metropolitan region is traversed by the Seine River. In Rouen, several bridges allow locals and tourists to cross from one bank to the other. In the Seine Valley, discover an original and unusual way to cross the river: the Seine ferries.
While Normandy’s bridges remains the easiest way to cross the Seine, many people continue to use the ferries to switch from one bank to another. Formerly the only way to cross the river, the ferries are a river tradition that endures and provides a veritable social link that is popular among residents of the Seine-Maritime region… and tourists too!
This service was managed in the past by the Port of Rouen, and taken over in 2001 by the Ferry Service of the General Council of Seine-Maritime. With over 10 million passengers each year, the ferries of the Seine-Maritime department are a practical and economical mode of transport for cross the Seine. Canteleu Dieppedalle, Jumièges and La Bouille are departure points for the ferries.
