Historial Jeanne d'Arc
Description The Joan of Arc Historial, the largest site dedicated to the memory of Joan of Arc, is set in the heart of the Archbishop’s Palace of Rouen. Closely linked to Joan of Arc’s destiny, this site of exceptional architectural quality houses the remains of the room known as l’Officialité, the ‘Official Room’, where her sentence was pronounced in 1431, and where her rehabilitation trial took place in 1456. After undergoing superb restoration, this building, classified as a Historic Monument, is open to the public for the first time.
The Joan of Arc Historial aims to respond to a dual need: to present the saga of Joan of Arc, but also to uncover her legend, thanks to cutting-edge multimedia technology brought together in a spectacular scenography.
In an area of almost 1000 m2, divided into some fifteen distinct spaces on five levels, visitors will be transported into the heart of the 15th century in a animated judicial enquiry. Guided by the image of Juvénal des Ursins, ecclesiastic and jurist, who led the rehabilitation trial, visitors will be fully immersed in an interactive display that is both educational and fun, and accessible to everyone. They will discover the saga of Joan through multimedia devices on site (audiovisual displays, sound effects, 3D projections, etc.). Visitors will then encounter the Mythotheque and learn more about the main elements of the debates inspired by this important figure in the history of France. The public will be able to feed their curiosity with the help of multimedia terminals, interactive devices and films, revealing a collection of items connected to Joan and works of art that she inspired.
At the end of their visit, visitors will be free to witness the beauty of the magnificent Salle des États, the ‘State Room’ and the bright Aubigné Chapel in the Archbishop’s Palace, both dating from the beginning of the 18th century and completely restored for the occasion. Vidéo
